When booking a FishingBooker trip, you can either:
- Pay in full at checkout, or
- Pay a deposit and settle the remaining balance later
If you paid a deposit, you now have two ways to handle the remaining balance.
Option 1: Schedule Automatic Payment (Pay Part Now, Part Later)
For eligible bookings, you can choose to schedule the remaining balance to be charged automatically.
How it works
The remaining balance is automatically charged at 3 PM (charter’s local time), one day before your trip
- The charge is made to the card you used when paying the deposit
- You’ll receive reminders before the charge
- You can cancel the scheduled payment anytime before it’s processed
This option is available when:
- The captain supports online remaining balance payments
- The trip is more than 24 hours away
- The booking qualifies under our eligibility criteria
If full payment is available, it remains the recommended option at checkout.
Will my card be saved?
If you choose to schedule automatic payment:
- Your card is securely stored for this booking
- After the remaining balance is successfully charged, the card is automatically removed
- If you also choose to save your card for future bookings, it will remain on your account.
Your payment information is securely processed through Stripe.
Can I pay earlier?
Yes. At any time before the scheduled charge, you can:
- Visit your Booking Details page
- Select Pay balance now
If you pay manually, the scheduled charge will automatically be canceled to prevent double charging.
Can I cancel the scheduled payment?
Yes. You can cancel auto-pay anytime from your Booking Details page.
If you cancel it, you’ll need to settle the remaining balance yourself – either:
- By paying online manually, or
- Directly with the captain on the day of the trip
You’ll receive a confirmation email if you cancel your scheduled payment.
Will I get a reminder?
Yes.
If you booked:
5 or more days before your trip → you’ll receive a reminder 3 days before the charge
Less than 5 days before your trip → you’ll receive a reminder 1 day before the charge
Reminders include:
- The amount to be charged
- The date and time of the charge
- The card that will be charged
- A link to manage your payment
If you change your booking before the charge, we automatically adjust the payment schedule.
What happens if the payment fails?
If the scheduled charge doesn’t go through:
- You’ll receive an email, SMS, and push notification
- We’ll explain what went wrong (when possible)
- You’ll be prompted to retry the payment
If you don’t complete the payment online, you’re still required to settle the remaining balance directly with the captain.
Option 2: Pay the Remaining Balance Manually
If you prefer not to schedule automatic payment, you can:
- Pay online manually through FishingBooker
- Pay directly to the captain
This typically happens on the day of your trip or one day prior.
For more expensive multi-day trips, some guides may request payment up to 60 days before departure.
Paying Online Through FishingBooker
Paying online is convenient if you prefer not to bring cash. If the captain supports online payments, you can pay the remaining balance anytime from your Booking Details page.
From there, you can:
- Select your saved card
- Enter a new card
- Use Apple Pay
Before confirming, you’ll see a full price breakdown. Once paid, you’ll receive a receipt by email and see confirmation in your Booking Details.
Do transaction fees apply?
Depending on the captain’s payment setup:
- A service fee may apply
- Some captains charge a credit card processing fee (typically 2–5%)
All applicable fees are clearly shown before you confirm payment.
You can review accepted payment methods in the Payment section on the charter listing page.
Paying the Captain Directly
Depending on what your fishing guide accepts, you may pay:
- Cash
- Credit card
- Another method agreed upon directly
Paying with a card
Most guides accept card payments. When paying the remaining balance with a credit card, captains may ask you to cover an additional fee. This fee is typically around 2-5% of the amount you're paying to the captain. You can find more information about fees under the Payment Methods section on the charter listing page.

Important: Payment Options for Existing Bookings
If online Remaining Balance or Tips were available when you booked your trip, you’ll continue to see those options – even if the captain later turns them off for future bookings.
This ensures the payment expectations set at checkout remain the same for your booking.
