Southeast For-Hire Integrated Electronic Reporting Program (SEFHIER)

    What is SEFHIER?

The Southeast For-Hire Integrated Electronic Reporting (SEFHIER) program is the electronic reporting of catch data by for-hire vessels.

One of the most valuable aspects of tracking catch data is that it provides reliable and accurate information for fisheries. In turn, this makes population assessments easier while also ensuring better fishery management.

Electronic reporting contributes to providing timely, accurate, and reliable information for species that have low catches, small annual catch limits, or are rarely encountered.

How does SEFHIER affect me as a captain?

SEFHIER applies to you if you're operating in the South Atlantic/Atlantic, and are a holder of the following federal permits:

    • South Atlantic Charter/Headboat for Coastal Migratory Pelagic fish (CHS) permit
    • Atlantic Charter/Headboat for Dolphin/wahoo (CDW) permit
    • South Atlantic Charter/Headboat for Snapper-grouper fish (SC) permit

Based on NOAA's rules, being non-compliant might lead to not being able to renew your permits and/or be subject to fines.

How do I file a report of my catch for SEFHIER?

In order to submit a report for your vessel, you'll need to download one of the NOAA-approved software:

Logbooks should be submitted weekly by 11:59 PM local time, the Tuesday following a reporting week (Monday-Sunday).

In order to get the most up-to-date info on how your business should be registered on one of these apps, the best option would be to reach out to the SEFHIER customer service line.

The line is available weekdays from 8 AM to 4:30 PM ET at (833) 707-1632, or through email at: SER.ElectronicReporting@noaa.gov.
